Winter at Biltmore Estate
It is obvious that Biltmore Estate is a grand place. It is a place that is on a lot of bucket lists, and it was on mine for years. Late last year I decided to buy an annual pass for one year, and it has been worth the money so far.
While Biltmore is known for its beautiful gardens, they take a break during the winter. Never fear, a conservatory will take care of your desire the see flowers. As soon as you walk through the doors, you are instantly greeted with a warm tropical temperature, and flowers as far as your eyes can see. Amaryllis, orchids, and all kinds of other flowers are blooming. Beautiful and vibrant colors are popping from the floor to the ceiling. You can spend as much time as you like enjoying all that is around you.
Biltmore also offers some spectacular views of the mountains. When you walk up the steps to look at the view from the back of the house, a beautiful mountain scene awaits you. The Blue Ridge Mountains are dotting the landscape. It’s a view that has been enjoyed by many for centuries now.
I decided on the day that I was there that I was going to walk up the steps that are against the wall so I could get a good picture of the house. The steps are pretty impressive since they are at an angle instead of going straight up. Once you get to the top, you can really see Biltmore in all of its glory. Just make sure that you have your ticket still on you if you are planning to return to the house and grounds, because it will have to be rescanned so you can continue your visit.
Sculptures can be found all around the gardens at Biltmore. I personally feel that they add a special touch to any garden, since they combine art with nature. The sculptures on the Biltmore House are absolutely gorgeous as well. It is amazing to know that the house was built in the late 1800’s and the sculptures have withstood time.
Before I left this time I was on the search for the lagoon. I didn’t even know that a lagoon existed until I read about it on the Biltmore app that I had installed on my phone. The tram driver that took us back to our car in the parking lot told us exactly how to get to it. On the way back there we saw some goats at work. A beautiful river was right beside the road, and we had actually passed by the lagoon, so we had to turn around. When I finally figured out that we had to turn off the road and take a small road on the side, I was in awe of the view. The house is amazing to see from that point of view.
I have already found out that I don’t believe that I will ever be able to see all that Biltmore has to offer. I wish that I could stay a week and just explore everything, but I’ll have to be happy with my day trips. I am anticipating the tulips and azaleas in the spring since those are my favorite flowers to photograph. I am so ready to go back again.

Biltmore Estate is located at 1 Lodge Street in Asheville, North Carolina. I highly suggest arriving early so you can spend the day there. I have barely scratched the surface with everything this place has the offer. Just make sure to have your walking shoes on because there are a lot of steps to climb if you decide to tour the house and the gardens. Take your camera also since this is an amazing place to photograph and you will definitely want to remember your time there forever.
